Hitler's Occupation of Ukraine, 1941-1944, first published in 1956, is a scholarly look at the Nazi takeover of the Ukraine during the Second World War, and of the resistance groups that arose to fight the invaders. Early on, the Nazis were successful in winning over the civilian population, but mis-steps, brutalities, and an archaic racial policy squandered this initial goodwill. Hitler's Occupation of Ukraine remains one of the few books to provide insight into life in this region during the war.
