How to be a Successful Economist

Autor Vicky Pryce, Andy Ross, Alvin Birdi, Ian Harwood
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 30 noi 2022
Exploring the wealth of career opportunities open to those with an interest in economics, Pryce, Ross, Birdi, and Harwood reflect on how students can become successful economists. An ideal complement to skills and employability modules on economics courses, or as pre-course reading, the authors explain the attributes that employers want and guide students to assemble the essential toolkit that all good economists need. The content uniquely brings together chapters which demystify the roles and industries that typically recruit economists; explore the importance of strong communication, quantitative, and broader soft skills and how to develop these; and coaches readers through the application and interview process for graduate positions. Readers will benefit from candid reflections on the advantages and drawbacks of particular career paths as well as the insights contributed by the authors, recent graduates, and experienced industry professionals. Professionals with experience working in industries such as financial services, government and policy, journalism, and consultancy participated in conversations with the authors about their careers. The valuable insights and advice they shared are included throughout the book and full video interviews can be found either in the e-book version of this title, or with the accompanying online resources. Recenzii

I drifted into economics by accident but have never regretted it. If I had read this book, I would have chosen to be an economist. Unique in its insights into what life as an economist is like.
A comprehensive hands-on look at the world of work from an economist's point of view with an emphasis on opportunities and societal relevance.
There really is no other text out there like this. It links practical issues to academic work.
The concept of the book is original - there is no comparable text I know of, and the pragmatic issues are covered extremely well.
To our knowledge, there is no book like it. Unique and much needed.
This is a comprehensive guide for students who are committed to following studies in the field of economics. It takes you through the journey of working out where your studies can take you, making successful applications and continuing to build a successful career once you are employed.
This book is an excellent resource to prepare economics students for the job market. It will also be an invaluable reference for convenors of modules aimed at employability, and colleagues in the career service.
How to be a Successful Economist has some very practical recommendations which can quickly and easily be acted upon to improve practice and employability prospects. I highly recommend this book to personal tutors, careers advisors, and of course to prospective and current students seeking a career in economics in the UK.
