Hubris Ark

Autor William Bradford Cushman
en Limba Engleză Paperback
Physical evidence and physics indicate that deadly gas from the ocean depths will finally destroy the misnamed species Homo Sapiens, and will do so within a very few years. But this Anthropocene Extinction may strengthen our species instead, if a few humans are clever enough, and can command resources enough. Wealthy owners have control over trillions of dollars worth of fossil fuels still in the ground, where they have no actual value. Being insanely greedy, they are determined to extract and sell these fuels. Unfortunately, the use of all this fuel will exceed the ability of the earth to absorb the resulting damage by a factor of five. This problem has been recognized by scientists worldwide for more than forty years. But, these wealthy owners avoid government interference with a very simple practice. First, they preselect potential politicians for their stupidity and greed, then control their access to the media and money for election. The individuals thus selected and promoted are the people we then get to choose between with our votes: Tweedledum (D) and Tweedledummer (R). These gentlemen, once elected, can then be depended upon for favorable legislation and no interference. Implacable greed thus blindly drives the process of planetary self-destruction. This deadly process became self-reinforcing about 2007, and is now unstoppable without active intervention, which is unlikely because of political treachery. Within this environment of climate failure, political corruption, and genocidal avarice, a small group with extensive resources recognizes the situation and, seeing that extinction has become imminent, takes steps to survive. Hubris Ark is their story.
