I Could Have Been...

Autor Helen Gallagher
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 23 ian 2019
From Pointe-à-Gatineau in rural Québec, three young friends, François, Jacques and Joseph are bound for England to fight in the Great War. Confident that they will prevail and earn their manhood, Jacques and Joseph dream of François' sister, Adèle: the pretty school teacher back home. The realities of war will take them on separate paths never imagined. Adèle prays for the safe return of her love, Jacques, the handsome lumberjack. Yet, her own daring dreams will go against the norms of society, the Catholic Church, the desires of her family and possibly even hinder her desires for marriage and children. Notă biografică

Born in 1947 of Irish and French-Canadian parentage, Helen was raised in la Ville de Québec. The family moved to Barbados, in 1964 where Helen met her husband of 52 years and raised three sons in the tropical paradise. Retired, they now reside part time in Gatineau, QC, and winter in Barbados. Helen obtained a History and French Literature degree at the University of the West Indies whilst working as a secondary-school teacher. In her retirement she writes and translates for Rotary. Growing up she adored listening to her grandmother's stories about life in small-town Chicoutimi. Such stories became the inspiration for this first novel and its sequel now in progress.
