Written in the form of a biography and the style of a novel, this is a life journey with romance and adventure, along with a recurrence of faith and hope throughout. The presence of God is evident from beginning to end. The author is quite frank about his failures as well as successes, as he discusses the events that built his character and persona from before he was born until the present. Throughout the story, he discovers who he was at various points, as viewed by the man he is today. By "going back in time" to relive the events and episodes of his life, he experiences all the emotions and attitudes that were forming him at those times. He encounters the same challenges and opportunities, and he finds he would make the same choices overall. As he points out in the book, nobody can make decisions at age 20 with the experience of a 70 year-old person. But his greatest discovery is the constant presence of God, along with His blessings and miracles at every step. The author points out that we miss so much, due to the fast pace of life, and a complete review of our life is like reading a book the second time. We find many things missed the first time through. He focuses on his three pillars of life, faith, hope and love. There is an obsession with marriage and family that belies his inability to express his emotional attachment to them. Yet, the book contains some of his expressions of emotion far beyond any made regularly to members of his family. There is a great sense of loss, along with discovery of amazing grace.
