To conclude, those interested in the nature of moral obligation should certainly read Zimmerman's book. It is well written and insightful.
I applaud Zimmerman for calling attention to the fact that conscientious moral thinking will not always lead to the objectively best moral conclusion, a fact that can be too easily forgotten.

Michael J. Zimmerman is Professor of Philosophy at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is the author of several books and articles on foundational issues in ethics and the theory of value.
