Improved fish farming in Kwilu

Autor Martine Matiala Mayita
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 19 sep 2022
Tilapia are native to Africa, but have been introduced to many countries around the world. They are disease resistant, reproduce easily, eat a variety of foods and tolerate poor water quality with low dissolved oxygen. Most will thrive in brackish water, some adapt to salt water. These characteristics make tilapia suitable for farming in most developing countries. Our province of Kwilu especially the city of Kikwit and its surrounding villages have standards difficulties to produce tilapia in large quantities that could serve the demand of the population. Having carried out the studies on the ground and in several villages of our Province, we noted that our population does not have easy access to the meat and fish to mitigate the food deficiency of animal origin. However, everything is possible because we have very productive lands and grounds when it comes to this. That is why we had this idea to put in place a very important manual that could help this population to make a breeding of tilapia fish which is very easy to do.
