The Shorter Catechism is generally divided into two parts, reflected in the response to Question 3: "What do the Scriptures principally teach? The Scriptures principally teach what man is to believe concerning God, and what duty God requires of man." This collection of Pastor Thomson's sermons could be divided accordingly for the sake of an organized Bible study for the reader.We suggest that readers work through these sermons with that division in mind. Questions 1-38 clearly develop an understanding of what we are to believe concerning God. Questions 39-107 concern our duty before God. This second group of questions could be subdivided as well into two parts, namely Questions 45 to 85 which deal with the Ten Commandments, and Questions 86 to 107, which deal with repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.A daily dose of these sermons will enable readers to delve into Scripture with a focus on each of these questions. In this way, with diligent persistence, in a little over three months of study readers will be able come to an understanding of God's wonderful grace, shown in His Word and demonstrated through His Spirit in the person of His Son. Christians are thereby able to give an answer for the hope that is in them.It is hoped that readers will be nourished by these sermons, as we who have heard them preached can attest to how they have already benefited us. The gospel message is for all who seek to know God and to worship Him in spirit and in truth. The Bread of Life is only found in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As Peter said to Jesus in John 6:68-9, "Lord, to whom should we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."These sermons have also been previously published in two parts as "sermon notes" and may be purchased separately in either print or e-format.Pastor James A.
