This book is designed to meet the needs of parents and general educators in their newly defined role..The authors of the 13 chapters of this book take a comprehensive view of inclusion that encompasses all students with diverse learning needs.
Ranging from discussions of teaching in inclusive classrooms to self- and parent advocacy, the essays in this volume provide an overivew of special education in the contemporary school. Separate sections devoted to teachers and parents address their experiences and questions, and offer suggestions on how to make their schools and homes more supportive and inclusive. Lists of further print and media resources are provided. Solid research combined with practical advice.
Passed in 1997, the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) ensures that all students with special needs have a right to education in the least restrictive environment. In this volume, 13 contributions from educators address some of the issues involved when integrating the special needs child into all facets of school life.
