This volume, fourth in the series of Vital and Health Statistics Monographs sponsored by the American Public Health Association, is the first nongovernmental study to deal jointly with infant, maternal, and childhood mortality. In their investigation of the circumstances leading to the current situation, the authors used special tabulations of national vital statistics prepared by the National Center for Health.
