Recenzii
“IR spectroscopy is very important in modern mineralogy, where it serves as both an excellent diagnostic tool and sensitive method for studying the intricate features of various substances including poor-crystalline solids. Though high-quality IR spectra can now be obtained using cheap, easily accessible instruments, the remaining problem was the lack of a comprehensive reference book or database with IR spectra of minerals based on reliable standards. As such, this book presents this long-awaited resource for specialists in mineralogy, crystal chemistry and inorganic materials.” Igor V. Pekov, Moscow State University, Russia
Notă biografică
Dr. Nikita V. Chukanov is an world known expert in Infrared Spectroscopy applied on minerals. He discovered more than 130 new mineral species that are now approved by the IMA commission on New Minerals and Mineral Names. He also invented two original methods of IR spectroscopic analysis of materials and wrote more than 585 publications to date.
Textul de pe ultima copertă
Over the last 30 years, Dr. Nikita V. Chukanov has collected IR spectra of about 2000 mineral species, including 247 holotype samples. In this book, he presents 3309 spectra of these minerals with detailed description and analytical data for reference samples. In the course of this work, about 150 new mineral species have been discovered. This book presents spectra of each mineral together with a description and comments on standard samples used (occurrence, appearance, associated minerals, empirical formula etc.). Sections are organized according to different classes of compounds (silicates, phosphates, arsenates, oxides etc.).
Caracteristici
Display more than 3000 IR spectra of more than 2000 mineral species collected during last 30 years (5-6 times more than in any existing handbook or database) Includes full descriptions and analytical data of each sample for which IR spectrum was obtained Includes description of 140 holotypes of new minerals discovered by the author or with his participation Useful for mineralogists and specialists in inorganic materials
