Caracteristici
This book will take readers fully inside the British banking crisis, and has been updated with additional interviews with players who, as they are no longer in their original posts, are now more free to speak candidly: targeted interviews include Paul Tucker and Charlie Bean (Bank of England), Hector Sants (Financial Services Authority) and Gordon Brown (who has now stood down as an MP).

Recenzii
This is a brilliant book - a must-read for anyone who wants to know more about who was in charge when our banking system seized up. It reveals panic, incompetence, complacency and disagreement, followed by decisive action that seemed right at the time but the author rightly raises questions about the costs imposed on us all.
As someone with a ringside seat, I can say this is a fascinating and intimate portrayal of the nuclear detonation of the banking system, and how while policymakers won the war, they have still to prosecute the peace.
A remarkable story of how, after failing to see the financial crisis coming and after fumbling the early responses, UK policymakers and regulators, helped by a group of City advisers, ended up producing a comprehensive and world-leading package of measures.
This is high class contemporary financial history and a good read, too. It sets out not just Britain's shocking ill-preparedness for the crisis, but also how many of the banking system's enduring problems owe their origins to fraught overnight rescues to stave off financial Armageddon.
Well-researched and colourful, Pym's work provides some valuable inside detail on the monumental political and financial events of those fateful days.
