Breast milk is a complete food for the first six months if provided adequately to the infant. It is exemplified by the fact that post natal depression is a major risk factor for poor growth in infant. Postnatal mother's perception regarding adequacy of breast milk production can play a role in the growth of infant. The purpose of this study was be to look for an existing association between depression and maternal perception regarding adequacy of breast milk.We found that Depressive symptomatology in the postpartum period negatively influences infant feeding outcomes. These findings have important clinical implications and support the need for early identification and treatment of women with depressive symptomatology.
