A retired FBI agent fi nds himself thrust into the middle of a vicious battle over control of a well-known river and its surrounding lands in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Fictional elements are interjected into actual historical fact to produce a taut thriller that is as current as today's headlines.

Sleepy Ontonagon County towns cope with the consequences of the most recent of the many economic disasters to beset them over their lifetimes. Will they dry up and die, or will new development save them? Nature finally takes charge again, which makes that question moot.
