Recenzii

Thoroughly revised and updated, the second edition of this highly regarded text introduces the theory, practice and study of development. It examines the key aspects of contemporary international development – from globalization and drivers of economic growth through to gender, security and the environment.

The book builds on the authors' extensive practical experience to offer a systematic assessment of the field and identify characteristics of successful development. Arguing that there can be no development without poverty reduction and the involvement of all key stakeholders, the authors show why it is crucial not only to have the right policies but also to involve the right people. Failure to do so, they argue, leads on the one hand to aid fatigue, and on the other to distorted development, no development at all, or even negative development.

The text has been extensively rewritten to incorporate new theoretical insights as well as recent key events and issues, including the impact of the global financial crisis, the rise of China and India, and the political ramifications of global warming.
