Jacob's Ladder

Autor Jacqueline Troughton
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 31 ian 2015
Jacob's Ladder, a new book written by Jackie Troughton. Although this tale is set in the year 1888, it is a book for the New Aquarian Age, for the twenty first century.Mary Simpson, a forward thinking, highly educated young lady unexpectedly inherits a large fortune and Primrose Hill estate. Because Mary had a loving, compassionate nature she knew that she could do a great deal of good with her money. She believed that many destitute families could be helped by allowing them a small amount of capital to get them started on a profitable venture. In this way she was able to rescue many of the local families and lift them out of the poverty trap.Mary's father had always taught her to think 'outside of the box' and to use her intellectual powers to the full. She continually flouted convention, introduced startling new ideas and often shocked her workers. Mary treated all her servants as equals and considered them her friends.Mary's compassion reached a peak when Jacob, a physically handicapped young man, arrived at Primrose Hill. This meeting, dramatically altered forever the quality of Jacob's life, as he started to 'climb his ladder'. Together, Jacob and Mary managed to change the narrow, confining perception of physical handicaps that the local people held towards disabilities. In a decisive and firm manner Mary speedily dispatched a fortune hunter and a useless doctor, and sought to improve the attitudes of a compulsive gambler and a very lazy worker. By treating her workers with the dignity and respect rarely found in Victorian England, she healed the wounds of those that had been down trodden and ignored. The love that Mary gave to her community returned to her tenfold. While most servants of this era worked because they were forced to, the Primrose Hill workers laboured because they wanted to do the best for Mary. Her little community became inspired to encourage, uplift and help each other. After being around Mary for a little while they found they wanted to be kinder to other people. If the present world could learn to copy her enlightened insights, then all human beings could learn to live together as equals in love, peace and harmony.
