Keene: Images of America (Arcadia Publishing)

Autor Alan F. Rumrill
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 30 iun 1995
Keene has a history as fascinating and diverse as it
is long. It has changed a great deal in the last 140
years, growing from a small village in the 1850s to the industrial and commercial center of the "Currier and Ives" corner of New Hampshire by the 1960s. Yet while many tremendous and sometimes tumultuous changes have taken place in Keene, the proud spirit of its people and the rural beauty of the surrounding area have remained constant, proving that a balanced combination of history and change can be a recipe for success as the twentieth century
draws to a close and we enter an almost unthinkably different twenty-first.

Notă biografică

Alan Rumrill has drawn on the extensive collections of the Historical Society of Cheshire County to create a captivating history that documents the changing nature of Keene from the 1850s to the 1960s. Most of the images are rare, and all are fascinating, from views of Central Square, the "widest paved Main Street in the world," to photographs of the industries, buildings, and people who have formed the lifeblood of Keene over the years. These images, together with the informative historical captions that accompany them, will take you on a journey into the past that will surprise and delight you.
