A knock on her door changes her every day; a storm alters her future. Sixteen-year-old, klutzy-yet-gutsy Amaya knows only her modern-day world of canals, beaches, and man-eating dolphins. Never having witnessed the beauty of plant life, she tries to focus on living up to her father's pro-surfing legacy and ignore her heart's desire to see what else the world has in store. That is, until she meets Takeshi, a boy who wishes to leave a life of unjustified exclusion and torment for one on his parent's homeland Komori, Land of Earth. Her struggle to achieve her goal of gaining popularity and recognition as her father's daughter becomes less and less important as she sees that her world is corrupt with a prejudice and that the rest of the townspeople are just too blindsided to see that they are only keeping themselves locked in an illusion, possessed by their obsession with water. Total destruction of her world and the probable death of her mother during a tsunami lead Amaya, along with Takeshi and her dog Mizuki, across the sea to Komori to possibly find the home, and freedom, they've been dreaming of.
