L'Exegese Patristique de L'Epitre Aux Galates: Collection Des Etudes Augustiniennes: Antiquite, cartea 197

fr Limba Franceză Paperback
In order to grasp the differences and similarities between Christian writers of Late Antiquity, it may be very fruitful to compare the ways in which they have interpreted Scriptures. The Epistle to Galatians is especially interesting for this purpose, given the fundamental questions which are involved in it: the conflict of Antioch, Paul's attitude towards Law, his doctrine of justification, his explanations on the allegory of Agar and Sara, as well as his defense of Christian freedom. This volume is the fruit of a seminar depending on the "Laboratoire d'etudes sur les monotheismes" (CNRS/EPHE) and the "Departement d'etudes patristiques" of Centre Sevres - Jesuit Faculties in Paris. Some contributions present the Commentaries of Galatians by several writers (Theodor of Mopsuestia, Theodoret of Cyrus, the Ambrosiaster). Some others deal with the exegesis of significant verses (the readings of Ga 3, 28 by John Chrysostom, of Ga 5, 6b by Augustine, and of Ga 3, 13 by Greek and Latin writers). Moreover, the volume contains a study about Origen's influence upon the Commentary of Jerome, and another about four letters of Ambrose on the passage from slavery under law to freedom in Christ.
