Recenzii
Habakkuk has only now published in one volume the full wealth of his research on the estates system. It is a prodigious work of technical scholarship. Substantively, it confirms and extends many of its author's earliest findings.
The real strength of the collection, reflecting the interests both of Habakkuk and of Thompson, is the nature of English landed society and its definitions of property rights and family relations.
the collection as a whole may be read with profit by the business historian concerned with the wider context of social aspirations, property rights, capital markets and technological change within which individual firms, like landowners, rise and fall
Several of the essays in Landowners, Capitalists and Entrepreneurs ... are ... likely to become classics in their own right. Clearly, all these papers have been inspired by Habakkuk's work.
