Leadership and Nation Building in Africa: Challenges and Opportunities

Autor Gregory J Bownik
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 12 iul 2010
Read the following essays with an open mind and analyze the perspectives and solutions of each writer. Ask questions, debate the issues with others who care for Africa, and think about what additional problems might be identified and what solutions would be possible with limited resources (both natural and human resources). I invite feedback and hope to add to the ongoing academic discussion on how Africans can be trained as effective leaders who can initiate nation-building in their home countries whether in Cameroon, Liberia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Nigeria, Sudan, or any of the other African countries that seek to end conflict and build better lives for themselves and their families. Only when African nations embark on an intensive nation-building effort, one that attempts to overcome the negative impact of decades of corruption and poor leadership, will they be able to rebuild their civil societies and join the globalized world in seeking the best for their citizens who have suffered too much for too long. Africa does need leaders to arise and take the initiative. However, Africa first needs the developed world to extend a helping hand and show that it cares for its fellow human beings who are struggling and suffering in sub-Saharan Africa.
