Libertarianism Today

Editat de Jacob H. Huebert
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 30 iun 2010 – vârsta până la 17 ani
This engagingly written introduction examines modern libertarianism and its answers to today's most pressing issues-the economy, war, health care, and more.As government grows by leaps and bounds, libertarianism is receiving more attention than ever. Written from a contemporary perspective by an attorney and law professor who is also an award-winning journalist, Libertarianism Today provides an engaging introduction to the movement's ideas and people, serving as a jumping-off point for readers who want to know more. Beginning with the general libertarian principle that one person cannot initiate force against another, even if that person is part of the government, the book examines the implications of this principle for a wide range of contemporary issues: war, health care, personal liberties, economic policy, monetary policy, and intellectual property rights. It introduces the people behind the libertarian movement and explores the strategies-including education, activism, and litigation-libertarians are pursuing to advance their ideas. By laying out the current state of the movement, author J. H. Huebert shows how, even as it gets more mainstream-media exposure than ever, today's libertarian movement has only become more radically opposed to the Washington DC status quo.

Recenzii

Jacob Huebert's outstanding survey of libertarianism ranks as the best work of its kind since Murray Rothbard's For a New Liberty. Huebert navigates successfully difficult waters. . . . Huebert's book merits close study by anyone interested in libertarianism.
Words fail me in my attempt to say how much I welcome this book. . . . This is a brilliant, magnificent book. It is the work of a libertarian genius, one who, happily, has many years, no, many decades, in which to make that signal contribution to libertarianism I have grown to expect from this young man. I am privileged and honored to be a member of the same libertarian movement as he. If the future of liberty is in the hands of young men such as this, I cannot help but be optimistic.
.its unabashedly radical nature is a welcome surprise for a book that could just as easily have be en me ande r ing andequivocal in its case for libertarianism. With an abundance of suggestions for further reading throughout, it should appeal to all readers from the most well-informed libertarian to those new to the radical theory.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Libertarianism Today is the most important book on libertarianism since Rothbard's For a New Liberty. Not only does it stand in the Rothbardian tradition, it is a principled, uncompromising, iconoclastic, consistent, unvarnished defense of libertarianism that Rothbard would be proud of.
