She is the author of The New York Public Library: A History of Its Founding and Early Years, and co-editor of two Library Trends issues: Libraries and Society: Research and Thought (with Margaret F. Steig) and History of Library and Information Science Education (with Donald G. Davis, Jr.)JOHN Y. COLE is Director of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. He is the author of For Congress and the Nation: A Chronological History of the Library of Congress, and editor of The Library of Congress in Perspective.
