Notă biografică
Daryl Koehn holds the Cullen Chair of Business Ethics at the University of St. Thomas (UST) in Houston, Texas. In 1999, she was selected one of the top business ethicists in North America. She has a Ph.D. in ethics (University of Chicago), an M.B.A. in finance (Northwestern University), a B.A. in philosophy (University of Chicago), and a B.A. in philosophy, politics, and economics (Oxford University). In 1977, she won a Rhodes Scholarship, becoming one of the first eleven women to take this top honor. Koehn has written many articles and books on theoretical and applied ethics. Her books include: Trust in Business: Barriers and Bridges; The Ground of Professional Ethics; Corporate Governance: Ethics Across the Board; and Rethinking Feminist Ethics: Care, Trust, Empathy. In 1999, National Public Radio conducted an hour-long interview with her about her book Rethinking Feminist Ethics. Her writings have been translated into Chinese, Spanish, and Bahasi. Koehn has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago and a Visiting Research Fellow at Hong Kong Baptist University. She has been appointed a Special Research Fellow in Business Ethics at Hong Kong Baptist University and at Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences. In 1997, the University of Denver devoted an entire conference to a discussion of her work on professional ethics. In 1998, Professor Koehn was invited to found the new Center for Business Ethics (CBES) in Houston, Texas. In 1999, CBES hosted a major conference entitled Corporate Governance: Ethics Across the Board. The conference, underwritten by a grant from Pfizer Inc, focussed on ethical, as well as legal, problems connected with the art of managing. The Houston mayor’s office has invited her to chair the Ethics Subcommittee of the Houston 2012 Foundation’s bid to bring the Olympics to Houston. Koehn serves on the Greater Houston Business Ethics Roundtable, a group of businesspeople and academics devoted to fostering good business ethics in Houston. In 2000, her peers elected her to the governing board of the Society for Business Ethics. She serves on the editorial boards of the major business ethics journals. Koehn is frequently interviewed by the press. Her popular writings have appeared in an array of publications, including the Harvard Business Review, Houston Business Journal, Dallas Business Journal, Phoenix Business Journal, and Oil Daily. She is a regular speaker at universities and at Chambers of Commerce around the United States. The journal she founded and still edits–The Online Journal of Ethics–is one of the top electronic journals. It was among the first electronic journals to be recognized by the Library of Congress. The DePaul ethics website she co-designed was the first ethics portal on the web and received three Best of the Web awards; her new ethics portal offered through the University of St. Thomas has recently been designated by StudyWeb as one of the best educational resources on the web.
