Monique, a young woman in present-day San Francisco, discovers that she has been dreaming of Louisiana slaves for most of her life, only the dreams have suddenly intensified. She believes that she was a slave in a past life and that she has been seeking the love of Jonathan, a runaway slave. Monique and her best friend, Jessica, try to get to the bottom of her dreams, to try and better understand the meaning of her dreams. In the process, Monique learns about love, history, friendship, and herself.
