Love's Fire

en Limba Engleză Paperback
_Love's Fire_ is a book designed to demonstrate some aspects of the nature, history, and extent of human love in its manifold expressions through comments, quotations, stories, and short biographies of famous people. Young people will find it especially useful in graphing their personal reactions to love as they become exposed to the arts. The many questions it raises about the nature of the emotion will also force philosophical answers from those who view love merely as the exclusive province of physical manifestation. As Franois Maynard (c.1582-1646) has said: _Je serais sans feu, si j'tais sans amour_, "Without love I would be without fire." Dr. Hook, Professor _emeritus_ of Modern Languages and Literature at Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut, has been writing books and articles on various subjects for nearly 60 years. His professional books and articles include German textbooks and technical articles on linguistics and theolinguistics. Other books, together with a smattering of short stories and poems, treat of literary, historical, sociological, autobiographical, genealogical, and church matters. One book of somewhat similar stripe to the present book, _Madmen of History_, has been republished by four different publishing houses in the last 30 years. Professor and Mrs. Hook, to whom _Love's Fire_ is dedicated, retired to Delaware in 1995, where they continue their joint work in genealogy.
