This book is an historical fiction account describing the journey of the author's great-grandmother, Lucy Jane Watson, who traveled the Oregon Trail with her family at age sixteen in 1890. The story is based on information contained in a diary of that trip which was given to the author by his grandmother -- Lucy's daughter -- Naomi Ruth Duerfeldt.
