Heinz-Hermann KOELLEBorn 1925 in the former Freestate of Danzig, Pilot during World War II, Dipl.-Ing. (MS) Mechanical Engineering, Technical University Stuttgart (1954); Founder of the postwar German Society of Space Research-GfW (1948), member of the Dr.von Braun team at Huntsville Alabama,USA (1955-65); Chief, Preliminary Design, US Army Ballic Missile Agency, member of the launch crew of EXPLORER I, US Citizen(1961); PhD. Berlin(1963); Director, Future Projects NASA/MSFC, (1961-65), responsible for the preliminary design of the SATURN family of launch vehicles and the planning of the MSFC share of the APOLLO program; Editor-in-Chief: Handbook of Astronautical Engineering -McGraw Hill(1961); Professor of Space Technology, Technical University Berlin (1965-91); Vice President International Astronautical Federation (1967-69); Dean, Department of Transportation, Technical University Berlin(1989-91), Member of the International Academy of Astronautics (1966), Chairman, IAA Subcommittee on Lunar development (1985-97), over 350 publications. Recipient of the Medal of the Aeroclub of France, Hermarm-Oberth Medal (DGRR), Hermarm Oberth Award (AIAA), Eugen Saenger Medal (DGLR), Patrick Moore Medal (BIS), and the Engineering Sciences Award of the International Academy of Astronautics.
