Notă biografică

Authors Gabriel N. Downs and Michael C. Downs have drawn from the collections of the State Archives of Michigan, the Peter White Library in Marquette, and the Marquette County Historical Society to complete this glimpse into the city's past. Gabriel Downs has also provided some contemporary photographs in order to illustrate better the continuities and discontinuities of the city through time. Marquette allows a greater appreciation of that city's remarkable atmosphere--a product of a mixture of urbanity, the North Woods, a poignant history with a sense of loss, a lively present, and a feeling of optimism regarding the promise of American life. Natives and visitors alike love Marquette, and this work presents some of the images that explain why.
