Mawsim al-Houriyyat (Season of Nymphs) is a captivating story that carries echoes of a Marquezian novel. It deals with the aftermath of the Arabic Spring - the upsurge of Muslim fanaticism and radicalization of Muslim youth - in a landscape that stretches from the Middle East in Jordan, Iraq and Syria to the Far East in India. The novel’s enormous geographical reach enables the author to paint an expansive picture of the true horrors that led to sectarian and religious wars. Alwaleed, an illegitimate son to a rich man to a man oblivious to his existence and whom he equally knows little about it, joins the Islamic factions fighting against the Syrian regime. He is later confronted with truths about his past that prove to be more formidable than his Jihadi mission. Meanwhile, after being told by a religious augur that his past has to come back and haunt him, the father begins his unholy voyage to protect himself at all costs, even if that happens to be his only son.
