Maya Archaelogist

Autor J. Eric Thompson, Eric S. Thompson, John Eric Sidney Thompson
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 30 noi 1974
"Autobiographical account of the early days of modern Maya archaeology by the most influential Mayanist of the middle decades of the 20th century. A foreword by Norman Hammond highlights Thompson's immense contribution to Maya studies, but also points out that changes in the field since publication of the original edition in 1963 have resulted in the rejection of some of Thompson's ideas. This thoroughly readable account of Thompson's work during the 1920s-30s provides a fascinating glimpse of a criticalformative period in Maya archaeology"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 57.http://www.loc.gov/hlas/

Textul de pe ultima copertă

Maya Archaeologist is an autobiographical account of explorations in Mayan ruins by J. Eric S. Thompson, one of the world's foremost authorities on the Maya Indians of Mexico and Central America. Based on his expeditions from 1926 to 1936 - when conditions in the Maya area were very close to those in the years of the Conquest - this book is an intensely personal account of the investigation of the "stone cities", such as Uxmal, Chichen Itza, Copan, Tikal, and Quirigua, as well as lively portraits of the archaeologists who probed this civilization - Morley, Gann, Ruppert, Vaillant, Roys, and many others.
