Some see dead people, many imaginary friends, and others like Jordan McGuffey interact with spiritual elements of good and evil.

Having recently evicted a demon she called 'Friend' from her Montana ancestral ranch, she rides away with the only two true friends she's ever known: Sheba, a pregnant malamute, and Bronco, an Appaloosa.

Unsure if she's running from demons or seeking human companionship, Jordan embarks on a roundup. Surrounded by loving neighbors who care about her, Jordan learns more than how to punch cattle. The friendships she develops gain her strength and stability to withstand further attacks from evil.

This becomes all too apparent when Sheba's puppies are weaned, and it's time for them to choose their forever people.
