Autor M. D. D. P. H. David Main Baillie Prefață de Ian B. MacLean
en Limba Engleză Paperback
This book is David Baillie's autobiography. He was born and raised in Nairn, Scotland. He received medical training at the University of Aberdeen, served as a ship's doctor, and after further medical training and work in London, emigrated to Victoria, BC, Canada. During the First World War, he served in the Royal Medical Corps including on hand medical care at the Battle of Passchendaele. After the war he returned to Victoria, started a medical practice and raised a family. His autobiography has been sitting on a shelf since 1967, and was only revived recently. In it he describes his early life, as well as the history and characteristics of Nairn, where he lived his early life. Through the course of the book he makes thoughtful comments on many of the important events and issues of the twentieth century, including the Russian Revolution, the Depression, and the establishment of medicare in Canada, as well as his own political, societal and medical observations. He also describes his encounters with two of his patients, who also happened to be noteworthy Victoria residents, Emily Carr, the famous west coast artist and writer, and "Candy Rogers," the founder of Roger's Chocolates.
