Medical Therapy in Urology

Editat de Iqbal Shergill, Manit Arya, Philippe R. Grange, A.R. Mundy
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 12 ian 2010
The future of urology is changing from one based around surgery, to an outpatient system, concentrating mainly on medical mana- ment. Last year, in the UK, there were almost two million hospital consultations for urological symptoms and an estimated fve million consultations in general practice. With such a signifcant proportion of care being delivered for urology, 80% of which can be managed medically, we felt that a resource should be made available to providers that will serve as a quick and useful guide to the medical management of urological disease. The aim was to provide a fresh, practical, and concise overview of the key medical management issues every practicing clinician faces in an outpatient urology setting, on a daily basis. With these goals in mind, each chapter starts with a brief overview of the relevant anatomy/physiology and pathology of the condition in question, and then goes on to give an explanation of the drugs used, including mode of action, doses, side effects, and important interactions/contraindications. Finally, there is a brief but relevant section on review of medical literature and a clinical section on when a particular drug treatment should be used. A list of key points can be found at the end of each section.

Recenzii

From the reviews:
“Book cover several common urologic problems … . This is a valuable resource not only for practicing urologists, but also for general practitioners … advanced practice nurses or physician assistants, medical students, and residents-trainees. It also can serve as a quick review of medical therapeutics for those preparing for board certification/recertification. … excellent resource for anyone who cares for patients with common urologic conditions. The chapters are concise, yet adequately cover the important aspects of the disease process and associated drug therapy.” (Marcus L. Quek, Doody’s Review Service, May, 2010)
“This small but concise book neatly summarises the various aspects of pharmaco-therapeutic agents currently used in urological practice … . The chapters are easy to read and well referenced. … an excellent, well laid out, succinct and easy to read pocket-guide to current medical therapeutics in urology and would be a valuable resource for medical students, junior doctors, urology trainees, general practitioners and office urologists. It would certainly serve well as a useful and handy reference guide in any urological library.” (Anuj Goyal, Urology News, Vol. 14 (6), September/October, 2010)
