Dr. Hanna K. Gaggin, MD MPH is a cardiologist, educator and clinical investigator at Mass General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. She has focused on innovative cardiology education through her role as the Cardiology Subspecialty Core Educator for the Internal Medicine Residency at Mass General, the founder and editor of the MGH Cardiology Board Review Book 1st and 2nd edition, founder and course director of the MGH Cardiology Board Review Course with Harvard Medical School 2017, course director for the On Demand Harvard Medical School, Encore Medical Education and Hansa Medical Program Postgraduate Course in Advanced Cardiology and the founder and former course director for the weekly Board Review Conference at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Cardiology Fellowship.
Her research focuses on evidence-based application of Precision Medicine in Cardiology. She is involved in single and multi-center clinical trials to evaluate heart failure, TTR amyloidosis and myocardial infarction phenotypes and response to therapy using novel machine learning techniques, biomarkers and longitudinal data. She serves as an Editorial Consultant for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Heart Failure.
Dr. Gaggin graduated from the Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2003. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Virginia Health System, followed by an MPH at Harvard School of Public Health with a concentration in Quantitative Methods in 2007. She completed her clinical cardiology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and clinical research fellowship at Mass General and joined the faculty at Mass General in 2012.
Dr. James L. Januzzi, MD, is a clinician, teacher and clinical trialist focused on the optimal care of patients with heart failure and coronary artery disease. He is the Hutter Family Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, a staff cardiologist at Mass General Hospital and Senior Cardiometabolic Faculty at Baim Institute for Clinical Research. After completing his undergraduate studies at Holy Cross College in 1988, Dr. Januzzi graduated as the top-ranked student at New York Medical College, and subsequently performed a residency in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and fellowship in Cardiology and Cardiac Ultrasound at the Mass General Hospital. He joined the Cardiology Division at Mass General in 2000.
His research has contributed extensively to the understanding of cardiac biomarker testing, where his studies have set international standards for use in diagnosis, prognosis, and management of patients suffering from heart failure and acute coronary syndromes. In addition, he has participated in leadership of numerous clinical trials of heart failure therapies, anticoagulants, and diabetes care drugs. Dr Januzzi has published more than 600 manuscripts, book chapters and review articles and has edited 5 text books. He is among the top 1% most cited researchers, according to Clarivate/Web of Science. He is an Associate Editor at both Journal of the American College of Cardiology and Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Heart Failure. He is a member of the American College of Cardiology Board of Trustees.
