A kaleidoscopic fictional adventure (with many ties to actual events and people) about a gentle if not confused man of mixed race, who leaves his Midwest hometown and ventures to California, in search of a new life that may offer him some meaning, and a future full of promise. Once there, he has many experiences, some tragic, some zany, meets his future wife and through a series of mishaps and strange occurences, begins to discover himself. The book is full of whimsy and some comedy, but is also peppered with real-life challenges and some tragedy. The novel's style is written in the same stream of consciousness and OCD personality of our Everyman, and tends to digress often, branching off into various anecdotes and descriptions of places and people, but it all comes together in the end, however randomly and oddly. It has suspense, adventure, comedy, tragedy, romance, and movie stars. It is ultimately about the universal desire to find happiness, and one's self, in this sometimes confusing and busy life we live.
