Consistent Case Structure
The fourth edition uses a standard format for each case, using a fictitious company and characters to present each case’s requirements. Students are given this process so that they can be organized in drawing solutions for each case. Format consists of:
Case Difficulty Ratings
The difficulty rating has been included for each case to help instructors see which cases are at the appropriate level for their students. Denoted by stars, they range from easiest (one star) to most difficult (five stars).

Consistent Case Structure
The fourth edition uses a standard format for each case, using a fictitious company and characters to present each case’s requirements. Students are given this process so that they can be organized in drawing solutions for each case. Format consists of:
- Skills Checklist — Provides both the instructor and students with a list of the primary skill required to complete the case.
- Case Background — This section offers a quick summary of the case, enabling the instructor to determine the appropriateness of the case to classroom material covered.
- Case Scenario — Sets the stage for the application and decision-making activities, providing insights into how the case’s main character will use the application and identifying several information requirements of the character.
- Information Specification — Outlines additional information requirements for the case.
- Implementation Concerns — Provides final comments about the design and development of the application, pointing out areas that may cause the student concern and helpful hints.
- Test Your Design — Requires students to make modifications to his/her application.
- Case Deliverable — Specifies what deliverables are to be submitted to the instructor. Each case requires both a written and oral presentation.
