Modelling the P-51 Mustang: Osprey Modelling Manuals, cartea 34

Autor Stan Spooner
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 31 iul 2007
The North American P-51 Mustang had a humble genesis as a British request for single engine escort fighter. The projects in the book take the modeller from the aircraft's beginnings to the ultimate manifestation of this elegant and deadly bird, the F-82 G/H Twin Mustang. The North American P-51 Mustang had a humble genesis as a British request for single engine escort fighter. "Dutch" Kindelberger's North American design team created, in just six months, a prototype that would become, arguably, World War II's most important fighter aircraft. The aircraft was designed around the innovative laminar flow wing, which resulted in a much more efficient flow of air across the top of the wing, thereby reducing drag and increasing range. Modelling is the perfect format to appreciate this revolutionary design feature which created a highly maneuverable plane with excellent range.

This book pays attention to the crucial details and methods needed to model the Mustang, at differing skill levels and with unique finishing tips and styles - showing the benefits of scratch built components, all illustrated in a clear concise and easy to use manner.

Recenzii

"This book would be pretty good if it only covered the controversial P-51 variants, but it's set apart by an incredible rebuild of Modelcraft's badly-flawed 1/48 scale F-82G Twin Mustang nightfighter that takes up alomst a third of the book. Bravo! Buy this book!" -Aerospace Modeler (No.9 Volume 3, Number 1)

"Osprey's Modelling series shows how advanced modelers use their knowledge, skills and expertise to create incredibly and correctly detailed models of all sorts... Each book discusses how a variety of model kits are used to make authentic looking WWII vehicles... If you are looking for books that provide the high detailing to take your miniatures to the next level, you should check these books out." -Michael Koznarsky, Historical Miniature Gamer (Issue 11)

"Military modelers will relish Stan Spooner's Modelling the P-51 Mustang, an in depth survey of how to model World War II's famous fighter craft. From the history of the Mustang to five building projects of varying complexity, military and hobbyist holdings will find this an excellent pick." -The Bookwatch (February 2008)

"All in all, this is a very useful modeller's guide to building the Mustang in 1/48 scale. The projects are well chosen to challenge and inspire modellers at all skill levels... Recommended." -Rowan Baylis, AeroScale (August 2007)

"The articles and the excellent color photography provide a superb guide for those who, if they don't wish to replicate all the word, will be able to easily duplicate whatever portions they wish. In all, it is one of the better volumes in this series and one that I'm sure most of you will want to add to your library." -Scott Van Aken, modelingmadness.com (August 2007)

"This book is very well-written, giving an enormous amount of information regarding the construction of each featured model... If you're a P-51 fan, there's no doubt that you WILL want this book on your shelf... I've actually read this book two or three already, and highly recommend it as a solid reference on detail-focused modeling in general, and on superdetailing the P-51 Mustang in particular." -Keith Pruitt, International Plastic Modelers' Society (December 2007)
