I know this book very well and believe that it is the best of its kind. It is an excellent introduction into thermodynamics, and it contains an excellent second part on non–equilibrium thermodynamics that is not contained in most other textbooks.

It is excellent and unique. Most thermodynamics texts are extremely dry indeed this is the only one that is at all interesting.

The advantages of this book are (1) treatment of both equilibrium and non–equilibrium systems which is rather unusual. (2) a historical approach which can be appealing to students. (3) Clear exposition of linear non–equilibrium thermodynamics.
