Modernising British Government

Autor Stanley Henig
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 27 apr 2006
This book will be released on the first year anniversary of the defeat for regional assemblies in NE England. It is related to the political 'hot topics' of the reform of the House of Lords and the role of central government; likely to provoke political debate. The author retains good links/contacts in central government and across the regions. Has the British public become more and more alienated from the UK political process? This book assesses the government's modernisation programme and examines a variety of worrying new constitutional issues: the draft EU constitution, relations between executive, judiciary and legislature, the case for a Supreme Court, reform of the House of Lords, devolution and restructuring of local government. Stanley Henig explores the contribution federal ideas can make towards resolving these problems and reversing the process of alienation and in the process offers some trenchant and radical conclusions.
