1959 - A series of biologically enhanced bombs are detonated across the country. In the midst of a heist in Utah, Mr. Pale is trapped in an underground bomb shelter. 1963 - Mr. Pale emerges in a foreign land of death and hardship. Over half of the population has been wiped out and those that survived are caught between mutant animals, the walking dead and horrible diseases. Bands of violent gangs rule the West, ravaging half-filled towns and taking any precious supplies they can find. Mr. Pale finds himself at a temporary impasse. For the first time in his life he doesn't have a plan. Until he finds a family brutally slaughtered by the local gang, a fierce group called the Recruiters. PALE STEPS OUT is the first in a series of "Noirvellas" set in a post-apocalyptic version of 1963 and is inspired by the pulp crime and thriller novels from that fantastic era.
