Lawrence M. Friedman is the Marion Rice Kirkwood Professor of Law at Stanford University. He is the author of more than a dozen books and the recipient of numerous awards, including, for A History of American Law, the prestigious Order of the Coif, awarded by the Association of American Law Schools. He lives in Stanford, California.
