My Korean Childhood

Autor Cheh Phd, Kathleen Yaekyoung
en Limba Engleză Paperback
Yaekyung was a Korean student at a university in a large American city. She had come to the United States only a few years before. During the spring vacation of 1957, Yaekyung was invited to the home of an American couple, Dr. and Mrs. George Taylor who is lived in a suburb. They were professionals in the field of education. Dr. Taylor was a principal the local high school, while Mrs. Taylor taught elementary grades. The Taylors were very much interested in international understanding. Mrs. Taylor was the chairman of the local international women's association. While Yaekyung was staying with the Taylors for three days, she told many stories of Korean life. Mrs. Taylor, who raised three children, was eager to learn about other peoples. She asked Yaekyung many questions about Korea. The colorful flowers in the garden, the joyfully dancing butterflies over the flowers, the mysterious spring haze, and the sweet pungent air of the country home environment all stimulated Yaekyung to recall the nostalgic story of her past life in a land that was now cut off from the rest of the world. The following is Yaekyung's childhood story of growing up in her homeland, North Korea, before it was divided after the Second World War.
