Louis Hensel was born in Germany in 1817 and worked and travelled from Germany to France, Holland, and then arrived in New York City in 1848. On his first day in Manhattan, he started working in an Art Shop as a carver of artistic ivory pieces. In 1850, he moved to Long Island to become a farmer. He also spent many years travelling with the German Opera Co. of New York. He settled in Hawley, Pennsylvania with his family, and in his later years, became a music teacher and taught violin and guitar. He died in Hawley in 1908. Sigrid Wilshinsky was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1943. Her love of animals and natural habitat is exemplified by her style of living, high in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. The Delaware Highlands Conservancy has her land under conservancy, and it will always be a nature preserve. She migrated to the United States in 1962. Her talents include writing, metal sculpture, fabric design, and dress and shoe design.
