The compelling story behind America’s first postwar sports car.

The first book to examine the landmark effort that created one of the most successful racing sports cars of the 1950s and the incredible transatlantic partnership between Nash Motors and automobile designers Donald Healey and Battista Pinin Farina that spurred its construction. This entertaining read examines the men and machines behind the marque before, during, and after their time in the spotlight. A long-awaited exploration of one of the most influential vehicles built in the postwar era, this fascinating story will educate and enthrall from the first page to the last.

Born from a chance encounter on the high seas, the union between Healey and Nash Motors produced the first true American sports car in the postwar era. Farina’s later involvement brought some Italian flair to the Anglo-American hybrid, making it one of the first domestic models to boast European styling themes. Notwithstanding their small production volume, Nash-Healeys inspired other manufacturers to follow suit with sporting models that appeared in starring roles on film and television screens throughout the 1950s. The glamorous new generation of sports cars that followed appealed to enthusiasts worldwide and continues to thrill today. With extensive endnotes and appendices and featuring more than one thousand images—most never-before-published—Nash-Healey allows an unprecedented understanding of the historical importance of these special vehicles.

Recenzii

"Nikas has done an amazing job with this overdue look at a forgotten American automotive treasure. Fabulously interesting, the sheer volume of information is incredible with a much more accurate and inclusive portrayal of Nash-Healey’s birth and development than has ever appeared in print anywhere. Everything I thought I knew is explained in depth along with so much that I had no idea about at all, with research that has been carefully assessed and thoroughly vetted. What a gift for the Nash-Healey community."

"Beautifully written and lavishly illustrated, this landmark book not only tells the long neglected story of Nash-Healey, but also shines a bright light on several of the most compelling figures in 20th century motoring including legends like Donald Healey and Batista ‘Pinin’ Farina. It also recounts in vivid and thrilling detail the marque’s incredible achievements in motorsports, where this plucky automotive underdog beat some of the most established and successful names in racing. A real treasure for Nash-Healey enthusiasts and all aficionados of racing’s golden era, this masterwork is a signal accomplishment that should take pride of place in every automotive library."

"I 'thought' I knew Nash-Healey well, but after reading this very well written book it’s clear that I did not and the lessons learned were exciting, educational and flowed perfectly. It makes fascinating reading with well researched and accurate information. Excels in telling the genesis of the marque with wonderful ‘showing and telling’ of all the important cars that came before the Nash-Healey arrived on the scene and made the Anglo-American creation possible. This book was badly needed and will become “The Source!” Absolutely great!"

"Neglected for far too long given Nash-Healey’s milestone position in motoring annals, Nikas combines exhaustive research into previously unavailable records and photographic archives to produce one of the most amazing car books I have ever read. His masterful ability to weave together an amazing level of detail while making it an eminently readable story is incredible, while the background behind all the names involved makes it an even richer experience for the reader, pulling back the curtain in a masterful fashion that will thrill and enrich even causal readers. The result is a book that both seasoned automotive historians and anyone interested in an automotive ‘David and Goliath’ tale will adore. A must read for all enthusiasts!"

“Bloody brilliant.”

"A huge amount of collaborative research went into the 800 pages and nearly 1,200 images in the handsomely designed Volumes 1 and 2. . . this book set is the final word in the fascinating history of Nash-Healey."
