Odysseen durch entlegene Dimensionen 
LuYang (geb. in Shanghai, lebt und arbeitet in Tokyo) scho¿pft Inspiration aus der Science-Fiction-, Manga-, Gaming- und Technokultur. Dabei verschwimmen in den installativen Videoarbeiten Verweise auf hypermoderne Technologien mit Ideen zu post- oder transhumanistischen Szenarien unserer Welt. Die non-binären Avatare kreiert LuYang per 3D-Scan des eigenen Ko¿rpers und in Anspielung an die buddhistische Weisheit "Dokusho Dokushi" (dt. alleine sterben, alleine geboren werden). Die fortlaufende Serie DOKU zeigt diese hybriden "Reinkarnationen" der Ku¿nstler*in in ausufernden virtuellen Welten, die mit Computerspiel-Engines erstellt und von intensiven Soundtracks unterlegt sind. Das Kondensat in LuYangs u¿berwiegend digitalen Arbeiten sind fantastische, oft schmerzhafte und schockierende Bilder, die eine interdisziplinäre Mischung aus Religion, Philosophie, Neurowissenschaft, Psychologie und moderner Technologie darstellen.
Von der Deutschen Bank als Artist of the Year 2022 ausgezeichnet, zeigte LuYang im gleichen Jahr erstmals monografische Ausstellungen in Deutschland und Großbritannien. Der Katalog LuYang NetiNeti konzentriert sich auf die einzigartige DOKU-Serie, die auf der 59. Biennale von Venedig 2022 präsentiert wurde, und gibt durch die Essays von Livia Monnet und Pao-chen Tang, und das Interview von Nora Gantert einen fundierten Einblick in die Arbeitsweise der aufstrebenden internationalen Ku¿nstler*in.
 
Odysseys Through Multiple Dimensions 
LuYang (b. Shanghai; lives and works in Tokyo) draws inspiration from science-fiction, manga, gaming, and techno cultures. In their video installations, references to hypermodern technologies blend with ideas for post- or trans-human scenarios for our world. To create their nonbinary avatars, LuYang works with 3D scans of their own body, alluding to the Buddhist wisdom "dokusho dokushi" (you are born alone and you die alone). The ongoing series DOKU features these hybrid "reincarnations" of the artist in sprawling virtual worlds, made using computer game engines and accompanied by intense soundtracks. What emerges from LuYang's predominantly digital works are fantastic, often painful and shocking images that visualize an interdisciplinary mix of religion, philosophy, neuroscience, psychology, and modern technology.
The winner of Deutsche Bank's Artist of the Year award in 2022, LuYang presented their first monographic exhibitions in Germany and the United Kingdom that year.
