Neural Interface with the Peripheral Nervous System: Stimulation, Recording, and Modelling

Editat de Dominique Durand
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 15 oct 2024
This book relates to the analysis and the development of methods to for a nerve-machine interface. Peripheral nerves, both somatic and autonomic, carry signals related to control and the status of the organs. Nerves are made up of many fascicles, each surrounded by protective membranes. The goal is to provide a theoretical and experimental understanding of how one can recover neural signals from the various fascicles or selectively control the activation of these fascicles.

Notă biografică

Dominique M. Durand is E.L. Linsedth professor of biomedical engineering and neurosciences and director of the Neural Engineering Center at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. He received his engineering degree from the Ecole Nationale Superieure d'Electronique, Hydrolique, Informatique et Automatique de Toulouse, France, in 1973, and an MS degree in biomedical engineering from Case Western Reserve University in1974. For several years, he worked at the Addiction Research Foundation, Toronto, Canada, and in 1982, he received a PhD in electrical engineering from the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, University of Toronto. He received an NSF Young Investigator Presidential Award as well as the Diekhoff and Wittke awards for graduate and undergraduate teaching and the Mortar Board “Top Prof” award at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Durand is an IEEE fellow and also a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biomedical Engineering and the Institute of Physics. He serves on 14 editorial boards of peer-reviewed scientific journals and is the editor-in-chief and founding editor of the Journal of Neural Engineering. He has published more than 140 peer-reviewed articles and has consulted for many biotechnology companies and foundations. His research interests in the field of neural engineering include computational neuroscience, neurophysiology and control of epilepsy, nonlinear dynamics of neural systems, neural prostheses, and applied magnetic and electrical field interactions with neural tissue.
