Notă biografică

I was born, the story goes, in England in 1939. After some years of classical "gentleman's" education at a "prep" school in Hertfordshire I was "spirited away" to Cape Town, whence I returned in 1957 as an Anglican ordinand to Leeds University, where I discovered philosophy and Roman Catholicism in that order. Three years with the English Dominicans gave me Aristotelian and other foundations for further studies at Pittsburgh and Stockholm universities before completing the doctorate in philosophy, with Prof. P.T. Geach as supervisor, in 1979, with Morals as Founded on Natural Law as thesis topic. I benefited enormously from this contact, entering the ranks of the "analytical Thomists", after a fashion at least. Lectureships were then held at universities in Khartoum, on the Witwatersrand and in Lesotho as Senior Lecturer. I have also taught intermittently at the Catholic seminary in Stockholm, while from 1984 to 1987 I held a stipendium at the Philosophisches Seminar, Munster, Germany. I continue to benefit from the encounter with the late Fernando Inciarte there. I have published six philosophical books and around eighty articles, reviews, encyclopaedia entries etc. Papers have been given at congresses in Rome (twice), Eichstatt, Holland, Ottawa and elsewhere. Since 2001 I have been immersed in Hegelian studies, leading to articles and books, much of this work published or on the Internet. I am married since 1967 and we alternate residence seasonally between Stockholm and Gran Canaria.
