Nighthawk!
Autor Jamie Bastedoen Limba Engleză Paperback – 11 oct 2012 – vârsta de la 14 până la 13 ani
Wisp has a learning problem: he can’t read stars. For a juvenile nighthawk bursting with wanderlust this means trouble, with his peers, his parents, and the starving colony that tries to fence him in. So he ditches everyone, striking off on a forbidden migratory journey from the Amazon to the Arctic, alone ߝ or so he thinks. Crossing two continents, he wings above South America’s soaring Andes Mountains, over the belching mouth of Mexico’s Popocatépetl volcano, across the searing Arizona desert, up to the steaming Alberta tar sands, then steers farther north than any nighthawk before him. Can Wisp beat the odds against him? Without the help of stars, can he navigate one of the longest, most treacherous migration routes on Earth?

Extras
“By the time we find each other on the other side of the storm cloud, it’s pitch black. No moon, no stars, just a pale glow from the peaks. At first, we can only cling to the steep rock face, waiting for the wind to let up. When it finally does, we find shelter in a small cave half-plugged with snow. We cling together all night, neck to neck, panting with open bills for the air our bodies crave.
By morning, a ring of melted snow surrounds us, made by the feeble heat lost from our bodies.
I stretch my wings and give Willo a poke in the belly.
‘Aw, come on, Wisp. Just a little more sleep. I’m so-o-o tired.’
‘How about no. Unless you eat rocks and ice, we’re outta here..’
The whirling snow has changed to fog which glows yellow in the rising sun. We launch from the cave mouth and spiral up into a thick cloud that cloaks the peaks above. The mist presses in on us, damp and heavy.
