This retelling of the old Ugandan folktale, with a modern twist, is about Njabala a beautiful young maiden, the only child to a loving couple. Her mother loves and indulges her so much that she doesnIt learn to do any house chores. Her village falls on hard times, and Njabala is married off to help save her ailing mother. She is whisked off to a far off land where she faces great cruelty from her husband and his mother. She implores the spirit of her mother, who in form of a spirit helps and teaches Njabala her chores and duties. She guides her through her misery, singing and teaching her along the way what she should have done as she was growing up, empowering and building Njabala to understand her true beauty and strength lie within her and she can break free from the torment she currently faces in her life. Njabala is determined to change her life around and help other little girls not face the same fate, learning from her motherIs spirit to break free from all the things that are holding her back.
